The Newport News Fire Department is bringing its Community Health Bus to Brittingham-Midtown Community Center on Thursday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free, open to all residents, and no insurance is needed. Visitors can get health screenings, learn about mental and behavioral health resources, get information on chronic disease management and preventive care, and connect with community services. The program is run in partnership with Riverside Health and brings health professionals directly into Newport News neighborhoods to make care easier to reach. No appointment needed. Second Breath LLC is offering two American Red Cross classes this September at 733 Thimble Shoals Boulevard. A CPR Class on September 5 from noon to 5 p.m. costs $110 and covers CPR, AED use, choking and basic first aid. An Instructor Trainer Course on September 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. costs $330 for those who want to teach CPR classes. The Frosty Feat 5K is coming to Newport News on Saturday, December 12, at Copeland Field across from Warwick High School. 🩺 Love The Tree Of Life Clinic Helps Newport News Families Stay School-Ready

Love the Tree of Life Clinic is turning a former hair salon on 25th Street into a lifeline for local families.

Founded by Dr. Carmen Johnson-Martell, the Newport News clinic is offering free health checkups, school physicals, haircuts, meals, clothing, and shoes for children and families. The goal is simple: remove barriers for families who still need help after the school year has begun.

The clinic is filling a real gap for families who need physicals but may struggle with out-of-pocket costs at walk-in clinics, even when they have Medicaid. An on-site barber is giving children free haircuts, while staff and volunteers are serving about 100 meals per day and keeping donated clothes and shoes available.
