If you use Fishing Point for prescriptions, heads up. Newport News’ Community Health Bus will be at 2315 Jefferson Ave. on Friday, April 10, and Monday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help residents with pharmacy changes. They can help with finding a new pharmacy, transferring prescriptions, and answering questions. Fishing Point will pause pharmacy services for Virginia Medicaid patients starting April 15. Got a thing for free coffee and grand opening freebies? Wawa is opening its new Newport News store at 12835 Jefferson Ave. on Thursday, April 10. Doors open at 8 a.m., with a ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m. The first 100 customers get a limited-edition T-shirt, and everyone can enjoy free coffee. Newport News wants to hear from residents about the proposed FY 2027 city budget. City Council will hold public hearings on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at City Council Chambers, and Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at Denbigh Community Center. The budget is not final yet, so this is a chance for people to share their thoughts. Residents can also review the budget online or at local libraries and use interactive tools to learn more. 👨🚒More Police and Firefighters May Be Coming to Newport News |

Newport News could add more public safety workers under the city’s proposed budget. The plan includes 20 new fire department positions and 8 new police officer positions as city leaders try to keep up with demand and improve response across the city. Most of the fire hires would be firefighter medics, plus four lieutenant spots. The proposal is part of the city manager’s recommended $1.3 billion operating budget. |

Early voting has started in Newport News. Residents can vote early in person or drop off absentee ballots at three locations across the city.
City Hall – 2400 Washington Ave. (6th Floor) 📅 March 6 – April 18 🕘 Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
City Center – Fountain Plaza II, 700 Town Center Dr. 📅 Starting March 10 🕘 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Denbigh Community Center – 15198 Warwick Blvd. 📅 Starting April 6 🕘 Mondays & Wednesdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
All three locations will also be open Saturday, April 11 and Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Key Dates:
