School Efficiency Study in Newport News Virginia

Newport News Public Schools is launching a full efficiency study. Translation: outside consultants are being brought in to review how the entire school division operates.

 

Everything is on the table. Enrollment trends. Building use. Staffing. Transportation. Attendance zones. Instructional programs. Support services.

 

Superintendent Michele Mitchell says the goal is simple: use data to make smarter decisions and make sure resources are being put to good use.

 

The School Board is selecting a consulting firm now, with results expected this fall. According to Chief Operations Officer Rusty Fairheart, any changes could roll out in the 2027 to 2028 school year.
