Help is available for roof, wiring, heating, and plumbing repairs in Newport News |
If your roof is dripping, your wiring feels sketchy, or your heat and air are barely hanging on, this one’s for you.
The Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority is offering financial help for qualified homeowners. This assistance is made possible through the City of Newport News Community Development Block Grant Programs (CDBG). It covers real repairs. Roofs. Electrical hazards. Plumbing. Heating and air. Accessibility upgrades too.
Here’s what you need to know.
You can earn up to 80 percent of the area median income depending on family size. Income from everyone over 18 counts. The home must be owner-occupied and located in Newport News. You have to be current on your mortgage, city taxes, and real estate fees. Homeowners insurance is required.
NNRHA will inspect the home to confirm repairs are needed. They can deny funding if program requirements are not met. A deed restriction stays on the property for 10 years, with 10 percent forgiven each year. If your application is ruled infeasible, you can reapply after 12 months.
Sound like something your house needs? Call 757-928-2657 or 757-928-2655 to get the process started.
