Juneteenth week is here, and Newport News has a full lineup to celebrate.

The day marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 and is now a time to celebrate Black culture, reflect on history, and come together as a community.
