school gardening grants and student garden projects for local schools |
Newport News Master Gardeners Association (NNMGA) is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 School Year Horticulture Grant.
These grants aim to support student-centered projects in both public and private schools across Newport News, aligning with the Virginia Master Gardener mission to enhance horticultural awareness and environmental stewardship.
Each grant provides $500 in seed money for on-campus initiatives that deepen students' understanding of plants and gardening within their local ecosystem.
Hands-on, student-driven projects are highly encouraged.
All eligible schools are invited to apply by Friday, May 1.
In addition to the NNMGA grants, other local organizations are investing in educational projects.
For instance, the Coastal Virginia STEM Hub, based in Newport News, recently awarded over $295,000 to 16 programs aimed at enhancing STEM education in the region.
This reflects a growing commitment to fostering innovative learning experiences for students.
Furthermore, the Newport News Education Foundation, in collaboration with the National Council of Jewish Women, offers Teacher Innovation Mini Grants ranging from $50 to $500.
These grants provide "seed money" for creative classroom initiatives that enrich students' educational experiences.
Educators interested in these opportunities should visit the respective organizations' websites for more information and application details.
By leveraging these resources, schools can develop impactful student garden projects that promote environmental education and hands-on learning. |
