OCM Wellness Pop-Ups Kick Off This Week

The One City Marathon pop-up series starts this week, with free wellness events hosted by local businesses and nonprofits

The One City Marathon Community Health and Wellness Pop-Up Series kicks off this week, and it’s bringing free, low-pressure wellness events into neighborhoods all across Newport News. No big commitment, no sales pitch, just chances to move around, learn something new, and meet people doing good work locally.

The lineup covers a lot of ground. Salsa dancing, line dancing, HIIT workouts, muscle recovery, and a Dinner on a Dime cooking series that feels practical, not preachy. There’s also a style and confidence pop-up with fashion designer Travian Vann and image consultant Rashita Swan, which adds a little fun outside the usual fitness box.

What stands out is how community-first this feels. These pop-ups shine a light on local small businesses and nonprofits while giving residents an easy way to try services without guessing or committing. Groups like Bachata Vida Dance Company, Fit Goddess Tribe, the Virginia Cooperative Extension, DeStress Express, and others are all part of the mix.

Events are scheduled through February, with more on the way. Space is limited, and it’s first-come, first-served, so some planning helps. It’s free, it’s local, and it’s another reminder that a lot is already happening right here in Newport News.
