120 new apartments are headed for the north end, and neighbors already have thoughts |
The Iverson Landing apartment project is finally moving forward. City Council approved a zoning change on Tuesday that allows a 120-unit apartment complex to be built on Old Fort Eustis Boulevard.
The project stalled earlier this year when council members rejected a previous version. That plan, which involved local basketball star Allen Iverson, brought a mix of support and concern from nearby residents. Some people welcomed new housing. Others worried about traffic, drainage problems, and how the complex might affect the neighborhood.
Council members said the city needs more housing options, and they believe the updated plan is stronger. With the zoning now approved, the developer can move ahead with site plans and permits. Construction could begin once those steps are complete. |
