City Proposes New Regulations for Vape Shops Near Schools and Daycares |
New measures aim to protect youth and enhance community safety |
The proposed plan would prohibit the establishment of new vape shops within 2,000 feet of educational institutions and childcare facilities.
City leaders are considering new rules for vape shops, with schools and daycares front and center.
The plan would stop new shops from opening within 2,000 feet of schools or child care centers. Drive-through service would be off the list, and windows would need to stay clear so people can see inside.
Shops already in business would be fine, unless they close for two years or longer.
The city says the goal is to protect health, reduce shady activity, and keep vape products out of kids’ reach. Nobody is looking for a vape shop with a drive-through next door to a classroom.
If you want to share your thoughts, you have two chances. Head to City Council Chambers at 2400 Washington Avenue. The Planning Commission meets on September 3 at 2 p.m. and the City Council follows on September 23 at 7 p.m.
