Here’s your weekend permission slip to skip the rake. Instead of hauling every leaf to the curb, let nature do the cleanup for you.

 

Turns out, what looks messy is actually nature doing its thing. Leaves and small sticks form a natural blanket that keeps tree roots cozy through winter, slowly breaks down into free fertilizer, and gives a home to butterflies, fireflies, and ladybugs.

 

So before you fire up that leaf blower, try something different. Rake leaves lightly across your lawn or run a mower over them to make fine mulch. Your trees, your soil, and the neighborhood pollinators will thank you. Just remember to keep the sidewalks clear for safety.
